today was ty's first day at his new school. he was so cute this morning, patting water onto his head to get rid of the cowlicks in his hair. :) when we told him a few weeks ago that he'd be switching schools, he asked me if i could be there with him so i took today off. and wouldn't you know it, this morning, he changed his mind. but i went with him anyway!
his new teacher is wonderful! she's a go-getter and she has such an awesome rapport with the class. she reviewed ty's report card and was excited to tell him that since he's an advanced reader, he'll be placed with a small group of other kids who are being tested on their comprehension. they need to read instructions and then actually build a volcano! how GREAT is that! they are actually providing challenges for the kids that can handle it! he's not going to be bored anymore.
to his delight, he already knows a few of the children in the class and so he didn't waste anytime fitting right in this morning. he's going to do just fine at his new school!
mother nature was being very unpredictable this past weekend. on good friday morning, tyler came racing into our bedroom at 7:30am and declared "MOM! DAD! IT"S SNOWING OUT!"
he wasn't kidding! it looked like a blizzard outside. luckily, it didn't last too long and it melted fairly fast. it was still coming down a tad but this is all that was left by the time we left for our picnic at 11am.
every year, derek's family organizes a family (and friends) picnic on good friday at the beach. it's a wonderful family tradition! and even though mother nature tried to deter our tradition, we had a great time roasting hotdogs, eating donuts, having an easter egg hunt and visiting with family and friends. i didn't take nearly as many pictures as i should have (i was too busy chatting) but i managed to get a few snapshots.
the "big" kids hiding the eggs for the "little" kids
yes, i did the unthinkable!
i reformatted my cf card before i downloaded my images! {GASP!} i mentioned in my previous post that i had taken lots of pictures over spring break and easter weekend. i had cf cards lying all over my desk and i thought i had finished downloading them all. so i reformatted every single one and placed them back into my cf card wallet! i am missing the images from tyler's saturday afternoon soccer game! total bummer! especially because i rarely get to watch him play since his soccer games are at the same time as emily's dance lessons every saturday. i even tried to recover them from the card with no luck! another lesson learned.
i am making a point of going to his game this weekend to take more pictures!
well, happy belated easter everyone! i love that easter is a four-day weekend here! we need MORE four-day weekends! it was so nice to just spend the day at home today and get things done. the kids have been on spring break since march 14th and this past week has been such a whirl wind! i had quite a few of the days off so we tried to make the most of it. the best part for me is that i got to take lots of pictures. i'll be slowly posting them this week as i edit them.
a few pictures from our day at the park last week with the juch's! thanks for a such fun afternoon!
it's spring break this week and the kids wanted to go see a matinée today so i happily obliged..... but ONLY if they agreed to do a mini photo shoot with me on the way home. i'm so sneaky smart! there's this old building that i drive past almost every other day. a few weeks ago, i noticed that it was vacant and up for lease. it was painted a blue colour and somebody decided to power wash it so now all the paint is peeling off and it's so cool and grungy looking. a perfect backdrop. i've been dying to stop and take some pictures there for weeks now.
{i guess if you aren't a photographer, you might find that kind of weird! we look at EVERYTHING differently and imagine how we could use it in our art.}
i used my new lens for all of these shots. all were taken at iso 200, ss 1/500sec, f/2.8. the focal length was anywhere from 70-200mm.
i've just been lazy and really tired this past week. seriously, last weekend in seattle did me in! lol! not to mention that i also had two really big presentations to do at work this week. both went well but i have to admit, my heart wasn't in it at all. i'd much rather be taking pictures! :) so, enough with my belly aching and on to some pictures. a few from last weekend.
i took lots of pictures. some will NEVER see the light of day! what happens in vegas seattle, stays in vegas seattle! shannon posted a few on her blog! we had a fun time. it was great sharing all our knowledge and learning new things from each other.
one thing i took away from the seminar..... i REALLY want to learn how to use lightroom!
